Shimp Engineering is made up of a diverse group of designers, engineers, and planners; many of whom were born, raised or educated in Central Virginia. We are a highly motivated, energetic, and creative interdisciplinary team.


Justin Shimp, P.E. Founder and Principal

Engineer

Born and raised in Central Virginia, Justin founded Shimp Engineering in 2010. An expert in local policies, Justin has developed strong relationships with designers, contractors, and local government members throughout Central Virginia. Justin has a finger on the pulse of every project, and enjoys working with clients to design solutions that are uniquely crafted to fit their needs.

 
 

Kelsey Schlein

Land Planner, MUEP

An energetic, passionate, and can-do member of the team since 2017, Kelsey holds the office together with her presentation and writing skills, along with her management of office affairs and her handling of the office’s deadlines and due dates. Kelsey enjoys helping clients through the zoning amendment processes, exploring the alternatives that not only achieve the client's vision, but also are cognizant of the community's shared vision for the property. Kelsey is an avid yogi and lover of health culture in Charlottesville. She graduated from the University of Virginia’s Urban Planning Master’s Program in 2018.

Michael Chandler

Project Engineer, B.S.

A local of Central Virginia, Michael graduated from Virginia Tech in 2017, where he earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering. He brought his talents to Shimp Engineering shortly after and now serves as a Project Manager, guiding a wide range of projects from concept to completion. With a strong focus on site design, stormwater management, utility layouts, and as-built plans, Michael brings energy and precision to every detail. When he is not at work, Michael enjoys fishing, kayaking, and spending time with his wife and son.

 

Stephanie Paul

Project Engineer, B.S Civil Engineering; B.S. Architecture

A dual-degree graduate from the University of Virginia’s architecture and engineering programs, Stephanie excels at bringing ideas from concept to construction. She is passionate about learning the processes and methods of construction management, from choosing materials to communicating ideas to clients and communities. Stephanie has a wide range of interests, including working on and racing cars, traveling, dancing, movies, and sports. She joined us in 2019.

 

Kelly Strickland

Land Planner

Kelly has been with Shimp Engineering for a really long time, and has a finely honed eye for precision and performance of landscapes. An active community member of Crozet, Kelly brings a depth of experience and understanding to the team. He is a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics, and spends his weekends at the pool and on the court.

Chris Marshall

Project Engineer, E.I.T

After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2015 with a B.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chris started off his career in project management in the D.C. area for a national general contracting firm. He returned to the Central Virginia area in 2021, joining our team as a Project Engineer. Building upon his expertise in managing large-scale construction projects, Chris assists with the preparation of site design and VSMP plans for a variety of our projects where he utilizes his field expertise into designing effective site solutions for our clients. When Chris isn't in the office, he enjoys camping, hiking, and skiing.

Brian Croushorn

CFO

Brian, originally from Harrisonburg, Virginia, graduated from James Madison University in 2015. He began his professional journey in sales in NYC. Over time, Brian discovered a strong interest in financial operations, which led him to transition into the field of accounting. Today, he brings his diverse background and sharp eye for business efficiency to his role as Chief Financial Officer for both Shimp Engineering P.C. and Foresight Survey P.C. He enjoys traveling with his wife and spoiling his daughter.

 

Arwa Aly

Project Engineer

Arwa is a Civil Engineering who earned her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Bluefield State University. She joined Shimp Engineering in 2024 as a Project Engineer. Her work includes site development plans, stormwater management systems, grading and drainage plans, and utility layouts. Outside of work, Arwa enjoys spending time with her family and dog, drawing, and discovering new places to go out.

 

Chanunta Pitaksringkarn (Kankan)

Project Engineer

Chanunta (KanKan) is a Civil Engineer who earned her master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Originally from Thailand, she joined Shimp Engineering in 2024 as a Project Engineer. Her work focuses on as-built drawings, stormwater management design, VSMP compliance plans, roadway plans, and site development plans. In her free time, KanKan enjoys visiting coffee shops and watching films in theaters.

 

Anne Jennings

Intern Site Designer

Anne is a graduate of Bates College, where she majored in Environmental Studies and minored in French and Francophone Studies. She is currently a Master's student at the University of Virginia, School of Architecture, studying Urban Planning and Design. Anne will be interning with Shimp through the end of the summer and next fall, during which she is focusing on learning site design and the intricacies of zoning. Outside of classes and the internship, she enjoys running, baking, and spending time outdoors.

 

Julia Moore

Landscape Designer

Julia joined Shimp Engineering in 2024 after receiving a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.  She enjoys working on multiple stages of the design process, from zoning amendments and concept analysis to detailed planting plans. Julia has also a bachelors degree from William and Mary in Environmental Science and Public Policy. Before grad school, Julia worked at environmental education centers throughout the United States, and has driven across the country between Virginia and California six times. Outside of the office, Julia enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending time with her two adorable dogs.

 

Geoff Moran

Site Designer

Geoff, a University of Maryland graduate, spent his first
years of his career working in a design-build firm before transitioning into civil engineering. He uses his experience from his time at the design-build firm and from his architecture degree to carefully construct site layouts for a wide variety of construction projects.

 

Sullivan Higgins

Project Engineer

Sullivan graduated from the University of Virginia with his B.S. in Civil Engineering. He joined Shimp Engineering in 2025 as a Project Engineer. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, exploring Charlottesville, and spending time with his family in Southwest Virginia.

 

Polina Andreeva

Site Designer

Polina is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Urban and Environmental Planning program and works as a site designer at Shimp Engineering. She focuses on developing initial concept plans and supporting applications for zoning map amendments, special use permits, and related land use processes. Polina first joined the firm as an intern, gaining a year of hands-on experience before transitioning to a full-time role. Outside of her planning work, she runs a handmade crochet toy business and is a regular vendor at the Charlottesville City Market every Saturday.

 

Sara Baig

Project Engineer

Sara is a Project Engineer at Shimp Engineering, with a Master’s degree in Construction Management from New York University. Her work primarily involves developing stormwater designs and preparing VSMP plans to support a variety of site development projects. Outside of work, she enjoy spending her time reading, which helps her unwind and stay continually inspired.
